In 1974, Beverly Port, an American dollmaker who also loved making teddy bears, dared to take a teddy bear she made to a doll show. At the show, she presented Theodore B. Bear holding the hand of one of her dolls. The next year, Beverly presented a slide show she had created about teddy bears for the United Federation of Doll Clubs. That show quickly became a sensation. Other people, first in the United States and then all over world, caught Beverly's affection for the teddy bear. They, too, began applying their talents to designing and making teddy bears. One by one, and by hand, teddy bear artistry was born with Beverly, who coined the term "teddy bear artist", often cited as the mother of teddy bear artistry.

Hollyberry Kringle Teddy Bear was designed by Beverly Port and manufactured by Gorham in 1987. She is 16" tall, fully jointed with a swivel head, firmly stuffed for weight, and made from European mohair. She has shoebutton eyes, handstitched nose, mouth and claws, and wool paw pads.

She comes dressed in her original Christmas costume which consists of a red plaid dress trimmed with white lace and accented with red and green satin bows and holly stems. The hem of the dress is ruffled and a festive apron is attached at her waist. Underneath she wears a white slip trimmed in white lace and accented with red and green ribbon trim and panties trimmed in white lace and red and green satin ribbon which match her dress. Over her dress, she wears a fabulous red velvet coat with attached hood, lined in green satin, then accented with green and gold braid and trimmed in brown faux fur. It ties around her neck with red velvet ties and faux fur poms. Around her neck she wears a matching red velvet muff trimmed in brown faux fur.

This is one truly fabulous bear, in fabulous unplayed with condition, still with her hangtag on her arm. She is in a limited edition of 2500.

Price: $99.00
