America's greatness has come from the diverse peoples who came to our shores bringing with them their talents, skills and culture. Working with the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Steiff begins a series of immigrant Teddy bears, each telling the story of their own experience as they came to America. First in the series is James, who left England in 1913 and made his way to America.

James, New American Teddy Bear, EAN 666773, was manufactured by Steiff of Germany in 2002 and is in a limited edition of 1896. He was made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Teddy Bear. He is 9 1/2" tall, fully jointed, and made from the finest plush mohair. His paw pads and foot pads are brown woolen felt and his nose, muzzle, and claws are painstakingly hand-stitched.

He comes wearing his original black felt coat, matching black felt cap, and red vest with gold buttons. He carries a burlap sack with all his possessions inside. His accessories include an American flag and booklet with "inspection card".

He has his gold-plated “Button in Ear”, a consecutively-numbered ear tag with a red Steiff logo, and his original paperwork including his Certificate of Authenticity. He is #00315 in a limited edition of 1896. He is in fabulous unplayed with condition and comes in his original box.
